Goals With a Higher Purpose
17 Nov 2004
When I work with clients I am always asking them...
What are your goals?…
What would you like to accomplish?…
What do you want to create? …
When looking at what it is you want I would like you to consider the following. Who is it that says “I want?” I hope you realize that as much as you want to attain your goals and vision, that you are also a part of something much greater and you are its instrument – the steward and servant of a larger purpose, as if the web of life itself were pulsating with a purpose and you are an expression of that purpose.
You feel no desire at this point to gain at the expense of anyone or anything else – not because of you sympathy or altruism, but because you recognize that the fate of the larger world inevitably comes back to effect your own fate.
What I have noticed with clients is a desire for rightful living is surprisingly common among those who are working on clarifying their values or who have awakened to the truth of who they are.
The challenge now is about choosing wisely and trying to balance what the individual wants (what the small i wants) for themselves and what they want for the larger system (what the big I wants), community, planet, and Cosmo.
These goals with higher purpose are the alignment of the individuals wants and desires with that of Nature, God, or Universe.
Ask yourself do my goals align with a higher purpose. If not, what would you need to let go of to bring yourself into alignment?
