BREAKDOWN FORMULA
28 Feb 2005
Breakdowns are a breakdown of known or existing procedures or activities in order to create or produce a specific result or vision. Breakdowns only show up out of a commitment to create something. Breakdowns happen. Life is a collection of breakdowns. Inventions are born from breakdowns. Learn to know them, love them, and plan for them.
1. Promise not to complain.
2. Promise to come from a place of responsible creation. (What part did I actually play in the breakdown?)
3. Identify the problem. (What exactly isn’t working or didn’t work?)
4. What is your existing commitment or agreement in that area?
5. What is a possible solution? (If you don’t know, find someone who does know.)
6. Present the problem and a possible solution.
7. Agree on a possible solution.
8. Take action with that possible solution.
9. Implement a structure of accountability to support the solution. This means managing it and the person
accountable for it to completion.
10. If this doesn’t solve the problem, continue steps 5-9 until complete.
11. Document the system that worked so the breakdown doesn’t happen again.
